The City of Sails, Auckland, is New Zealand’s largest city and the central hub for transportation. It is a vibrant, friendly and safe city with the largest Polynesian population and has a population of about 1.58 million. The population in Auckland is very diverse with people from Asia, the Pacific Islands and Maori descent. This diversity has led to many cafes and restaurants with ethnic and authentic foods. The War Memorial Museum may be visited to view the origin of Polynesian people. The building housing the Auckland Art Gallery reflects the influence of Polynesian culture in New Zealand.

Auckland City hosts two fine harbours, the Manukau Harbour on the west coast and the Waitemata Harbour on the east coast. The Waitemata Harbour is the playground for boaties, including children learning to sail. At the far outreach of the harbour is Waiheke Island, reachable by a 45-minute ferry trip where many fine wineries and olive plantations may be visited. The west coast is populated by beaches with fierce surf enabling first-rate surfing. Care should be taken when swimming is intended by always swimming between the flags.
