BEST YOUNG RESEARCHER AWARD

To recognize good research, a "Best Research Award" will be made to a young researcher at the conference dinner. When submitting their abstracts, the first author (age ≤ 35 on 3rd December 2023) may ask for their work to be reviewed for the Best Young Researcher Award.

STAN SHAW BEST PAPER AWARD
​
The Prize will be awarded for the outstanding contribution to the field of mechanics of structures and materials.

Professor Shaw, Prederick Stanley (1911-1982) was born in Albany, Western Australia on 31 October 1911. He received his BE degree in 1938 from the University of Western Australia, BSc degree from Oxford University in 1947 and DEng from the University of Melbourne in 1952. He was a research officer and then superintendent at the Aeronautical Research Laboratories in Melbourne from 1942 to 1960, Research Associate in applied mathematics at Brown University, USA and visiting professor of aeronautical engineering, Brooklyn Polytechnical Institute, USA before becoming a professor in Civil Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 1960.
Stan Shaw was the second professor of the UNSW School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His expertise was in the area of structural engineering. He was the chair of the Australian National Committee for Earthquake Engineering and the first Australian Earthquake Engineering Society National Delegate to the IAEE.
Professor Stan Shaw was the inaugural chair of the ACMSM series in 1967 in Sydney, Australia. To honour his great contributions to structural engineering education and research, and his effort and vision in starting the ACMSM, which now is one of the best structural engineering conferences in the region, the Stan Shaw best paper award will be given at the conference dinner.
With an accepted abstract, authors can present their work at the conference. Even though full manuscript submission is optional, only accepted full manuscripts will be considered for the Awards.
